I had such fun last week with my group coaching program that I’m running and with an exercise I facilitated with my Holistic Healing Networking Group! It was an opportunity to take a step back and look at how you wanted to be in 2009! What do I mean by that? Well, what qualities do you want to exude? How do you want to be with your clients? How do you want show up every day, to feel connected with yourself and others around you? What kind of characteristics do you want to have for you business to grow, for your relationships to flourish? I think you are getting the ‘picture’ now!
Take a moment to think about what this means to you! What image generally one from nature -animal, insect, fish, water, tree, flower etc, comes to mind and really inspires you when you think of it.
Once you thinkof the image, make a short list of words and actions that come to mind that this picture or image represents for yourself. Sit for a couple of minutes and reflect on the image and the words, and what it means to you…. (see very easy)
Don’t force an image to come to mind, if it doesn’t come straight away, take the pressure off, go and do something else, and then it will to you, just like it did for my client – his image was a Phoenix! how powerful that is! Another client had the image of a dolphin! Just think of the qualities and meaning this images can evoke in someone, maybe even you!
Now that you have your image or symbol, in the next week see if you can find a picture or memento that will be a constant reminder for you through out the year. To keep you inspired and excited about 2009.
It will give you a chance to reflect continually coming back to a central point of focusing on what you want to achieve and how you want to be, a theme by which you will run your life, and beautiful way to ground yourself when things become stressful or overwhelming or your path has been a little foggy.
I would love to hear how this little exercise helps you! Please post your sharing of your experience.
Warmly,
Coach Louise

New Year’s Prayer
|
|
As I opened my eyes this New Year’s morning, warm in my bed, peaceful and quiet, the first thing my eyes focused on was a beautiful painting given to me by our beloved Abigail Boehm. It is one she had painted for my birthday. It’s a soft dreamy picture of a star-like figure in subtle tones of blues and golds. In the center of the painting are the words “Absolute attention is prayer.” The words are not bold, no, quite the opposite. They come at your eyes as a whisper would come to your ears. They draw your focus to them in remembrance of the gentle qualities prayer can hold. The painting is kind, soft, and loving, just as Abigail is and it holds the perfect mantra for the year to come.
Later that day, I went to Abigail and Kevin’s house for their traditional New Year’s day pot luck. A group of people had followed her other tradition of jumping into the river earlier that day and everyone came back to her house to get warm and be fed. Of course, I thought about joining in on that polar bear tradition for a moment but wisely changed my mind. As we all sat at Abigail and Kevin’s chatting about the freezing cold river, the delicious food, and the up coming plans for the year ahead, the thought “absolute attention is prayer” kept coming to my mind. There we were, all cozy and warm just being with each other like a modern day Norman Rockwell painting. Paying attention to each other’s thoughts and words and laughter. It’s in those moments you realize, THAT’S IT. That’s all there is…no matter what. Even when the world is going crazy around us…that’s it. Where we choose to place our absolute attention determines our lives. To give absolute attention to the present turns our whole life into a prayer. To bask in the love and friendship of each other is as great a prayer or meditation as any other. Perhaps even better.
What a metaphor that day was. Going from the freezing cold rapid waters of the river to the absolute warmth and attention of each other says it all. If we really stopped to think about it, is there anything more we need? Aren’t all our greatest moments about experiencing the love of each other in the fullest?
The evening came to a close and everyone gathered up their coats and plates and headed back out into the cold…and it was cold! Abigail and I stopped at the door and hugged. She looked at me with those pure blue angel-like eyes and with full attention said “I love you…happy new year.” I said the same in return. As I walked out the door, the wind and cold hit me hard, but I wasn’t sure what made my eyes fill with tears. Was it the cold on my face or the warmth in my heart? Did it matter? I just put all my attention on how wonderful I felt and sent out a prayer that each and everyone of us has a whole year of feeling that blessed.
Much love and many blessings,
Melanie

A true act of heroism.
I am ‘wowed’ by the book I have just put down (I really couldn’t put it down for the 2/3 days it took me to read it!) Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. I am so inspired by the work and bravery of Greg Mortenson and the people he has banded together in the extraordinary effort to promote world peace by bringing education to children in Pakistan and Afghanistan!
As a coach I see how he has had the ability to keep moving forward despite roadblocks and failures ultimately leading to amazing outcomes! I recognise how difficult this must have been particularly when he often faced these challenges alone and in extremely difficult and adverse physical and mental conditions. Greg is a true hero. Anyone who needs inspiration to keep moving forward in what their doing, whatever it is, will find it in this story.
I am uplifted and inspired and not only that, now more educated, as to the cause of terrorism coming from the hotbeds of extremism, poverty, ignorance and lack of education. And that Greg, who tackled this issue from a perspective of peace and intellect, initially alone, has made and continues to make a huge difference to many many impoverished people, as well as contributing to the worlds safety in a way that comes from love and compassion, not hate and retribution. We all have something to learn from him.
I believe he is part of what has become a tipping point worldwide towards hope, love, compassion and collaboration to create the lives, the world and the planet we want.
I implore you to read this book! Not only is it a gripping story of Greg’s experiences but also of his vision of what’s possible, and how one person can make a difference!
Greg, thank you for being the person that you are, and thank you to all that circulate in Greg’s hemisphere for the support and contributions and sacrifices you have made, to make what he has done, possible.
In gratitude and inspiration,
Coach Louise

Painting Icing on Christmas Biscuits with Friends.
Our friend Bill whose two boys live in Brazil, normally has them here for Christmas – they have a Christmas tradition that he normally does with them. As they aren’t coming this Christmas we had a surprise invitation to chile and biscuit icing painting last night. Bill and Daniela had it all laid out, had all the biscuits made and the icings colors mixed – ready for us to get down and dirty!
And what a surprise, it was such fun! My inner kid emerged, my creative side emerged, and even my cheeky personality emerged, as we sat painting yummy icing onto the Santas, reindeers, bells and snowflakes, complete with ‘hundreds and thousands’. We all revealed how much fun we were having and that it had been an opportunity for the child in us to emerge. My little girl sure did, and boy was she happy. I realised how neglected she was, and resolved to let her out more often and do more frivolous things! The New Year will bring art classes! I can’t wait.
sweetly yours,
Coach Louise

Louise with Elizabeth Gilbert - Author of Eat, Love, Pray
I took a lovely drive up to Frenchtown with my hubbie the Friday before last to go up to the Two Buttons warehouse sale that Elizabeth Gilbert and her husband (yes, the Brazilian she met in Bali) own. I had met Elizabeth earlier in the year at special weekend Yogaphoria put on for her when she signed my copy of her book Eat Pray Love, and got to chat to her then, as well as at her shop a couple of days later. I found her to be a wonderful human being, self-deprecating, humble, but with a dry wit, and sharp intellect. Truly an interesting person to converse with. She told me how she was writing I think its her 5th book, on the subject of marriage, and gave some wonderful tips to us for our travels to Thailand telling the little hotel they normally stay in on their buying trips.
Anyway this time, I happily bumped into her in her warehouse, after admiring the biggest white marble buddha I have ever seen! Incidently some local individual bought it to sit in his field. How cool is that! Mid conversation when she was telling me she had re-written her manuscript for her latest book, I realised that I was a little star-struck because I was so in awe of her accomplishments and who she was as a person. What occurred to me in that moment was that because of where I was in my head, that I wasn’t actually paying attention to her on a genuine human level. That awareness drew me straight to earth! I realised I wasn’t honoring her and the spirit of who she is, with my behaviour, and of course being the person I am and being a coach(!) I absolutely wanted to relate to her in a sincere and authentic way. As the awareness came, I immediately became more focused, and connected with her eyes, and became more centered in myself. I am not sure if she noticed, but I really wanted her to feel heard, and so part of that for me was listening intently – I felt my body and mind switch gears, and become present to her being. It was a wonderful feeling and revelation for me. A practice of becoming more present is key for me right now, so it was a beautiful gift. It was a double bonus!
Do you pay attention to how you are being when you are talking to your friends or clients? Do you really listen?
curiously yours,
Coach Louise
